‘We still have 36 hours…’ Coach Dravid’s big statement about Rohit playing in Edgbaston Test

New Delhi. Head coach Rahul Dravid has given a big update on his health and availability amid reports of Rohit Sharma’s exit from the Edgbaston Test between India and England starting on July 1. Dravid made it clear in the press conference that Rohit Sharma is not out of the Edgbaston Test yet. He told that Rohit is yet to have two more corona tests. Whether Rohit will play in Edgbaston or not, it will be decided after the report of these two Tests.

Rahul Dravid said before the fifth test, “The update on Rohit is that our medical team is monitoring him, he is not out of the Edgbaston test yet. Corona’s test report must be negative for him to play in this test. We are monitoring them. We still have 36 hours. That’s why he will have a corona test tonight and maybe even tomorrow morning. The medical and sports science team will decide whether he will play or not.

Bumrah can be seen captaining
Earlier, news agency PTI was quoted as saying that Rohit Sharma was also found positive in the corona test held on Wednesday. Because of this, he has been ruled out of the fifth Test. Jasprit Bumrah will captain the team in his place. If this happens, Bumrah will become the first fast bowler to captain India after Kapil Dev in 1987.

He would become the 36th player to captain the team after India’s first Test in 1932. Chief selector Chetan Sharma had earlier revealed that Bumrah belongs to the players who are being groomed as future captains.

Selection committee will decide on Bumrah’s captaincy: Dravid
Will Bumrah be the captain in the fifth Test? In response to this question, Dravid said, “I think it would be better if the answer to such questions reaches you from the official level. You guys will know officially once we have clarity on Rohit. I am not sure whether Chetan Sharma can say anything about this or not.”

‘Expect match-winning contribution from Kohli’
How is Virat Kohli preparing for this test? In response to this question, Dravid said, “Virat Kohli is working closely on every aspect of his game. We expect match-winning contributions from him. He always does this on and off the field anyway. He impresses a lot of players in the dressing room.”
