SL W vs IND W: Sri Lanka won the third T20 on the basis of Atapattu, Indian women’s team won the series to their name


New Delhi. Sri Lanka defeated India by 7 wickets in the third T20 International (SL W vs IND W 3rd T20I) on Monday, thanks to captain Chamari Atapattu’s undefeated innings of 80 runs. The Indian team thus won the 3-match series 2-1. Batting first, the Indian team led by Harmanpreet Kaur scored 138 runs for 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. After this Sri Lanka achieved the target by scoring 141 runs for 3 wickets in 17 overs.

Captain Chamari Atapattu contributed 80 runs for Sri Lanka and returned unbeaten. He hit 14 fours and 1 six in his innings of 48 balls. He hit the winning boundary off Radha Yadav and the hosts got a chance to celebrate. This happened for the first time that the Sri Lankan women’s team defeated India at their home ground for the first time.

Chasing the target of 139 runs, Sri Lanka’s 2 wickets fell to 37 runs. Vishmi Gunaratne (5) was victimized by Renuka Singh while Harshita (13) was caught by Radha Yadav by Smriti. Atapattu remained grounded and added 77 runs for the third wicket with Nilakshi de Silva (30). Nilakshi hit 4 fours in 28 balls.

Earlier, Indian team captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bat first. The initial blow to the team came on the last ball of the first over, when Shefali Verma (5) was sent to the pavilion by Sugandha Kumari. Then Smriti Mandhana (22) and S Meghna (22) put together 41 runs for the second wicket. Although Mandhana was dismissed by Ranasinghe and Meghna Kako Ranvira in successive overs, the Indian team’s score was 51 for 3 wickets.

Jemima Rodriguez handled the innings with captain Harmanpreet Kaur and shared 64 runs for the fourth wicket. Rodriguez became the victim of Kanchana by scoring 33 runs in 30 balls with the help of 3 fours. Harmanpreet returned unbeaten after scoring 39 runs. He hit 3 fours and 1 six in 33 balls. Pooja Vastrakar contributed 13 runs. For Sri Lanka, Sugandha, Emma Kanchana, O Ranasinghe and Ranveera got 1-1 wickets.
