On this Day: Sachin Tendulkar sets a milestone in ODIs, records not broken for 15 years

New Delhi. Exactly 15 years ago today, in the year 2007, such a record was made in the cricket world, which no batsman has been able to break in so many years. Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who is called the God of Cricket, crossed the 15,000-run mark in One Day Internationals on this day. Sachin touched this milestone on 29 June 2007 against South Africa. Sachin is the only player in the world to touch this magical figure and this record of Sachin does not seem to be breaking at the moment.

More than 18,000 runs in ODIs
Sachin Tendulkar achieved many achievements in his 23 year long career. One of them is the record of most runs in ODIs. Sachin has 18,426 runs in 463 ODI matches. During this his average was 44.83. At the same time, 200 not out is his best score. Sachin has scored 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries in his ODI career. In the year 2012, Sachin retired from all formats of international cricket.

Sangakkara missed the mark of 15,000 runs
After Sachin, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara was very close to touching the figure of 15,000 runs. Before retiring in 2015, Sangakkara scored 14,234 runs in 404 ODIs, including 25 centuries and 93 half-centuries. Sangakkara’s average in ODIs is 41.99.

Kohli close to 15,000 runs
Among the current players, Virat Kohli is closest to 15,000 runs in ODIs. He has scored 12,311 runs in 260 ODIs so far i.e. he is 2689 runs away from touching the figure of 15,000. At one time it was believed that Kohli can easily break this record, but for the past few years, Kohli’s form has not been special. After returning to form, Kohli can cross the 15,000-run mark in the coming few years.
