‘India is now a rising leader in innovation’: PM Narendra Modi in Munich


New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that I remember, when I came to Germany in the year 2015, the Startup India campaign was at the stage of an idea. Then there was no trace of India in the startup world. But today India is the third largest startup ecosystem in the world. India has come a long way and is now a rising leader in the field of innovation. PM Modi was addressing a program of Indian expatriates in Munich, Germany on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there was a time, when India used to buy even the ordinary smartphones from outside. Today India is the second largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. Today mobiles made in India are going all over the world. India is now home to more than 100 unicorns. A unicorn is emerging here every 10 days. India was never somewhere in the race for startups, but today we are the third largest startup ecosystem. He claimed that the spirit of innovation is evident in all parts of the country, considering that India is also moving ahead with the pace of digitalisation. He said that today 40% of the world’s real time digital transactions are taking place in India.

PM Modi asserted in Munich, ‘India is now ready for progress, for development and for fulfilling its dreams’. He also informed about the ambitious target of 10 percent ethanol blending in petrol, which the country had achieved five months ahead of the target. Significantly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Germany on a two-day visit on Sunday, during which he will attend the G7 summit and discuss issues like energy, food security, terrorism, environment and democracy with leaders of many countries.
