Palekal. The Indian women’s ODI team started with a win under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur. In the first ODI of the series played on Friday, they defeated Sri Lanka by 4 wickets. Sri Lankan team won the toss and decided to bat first. The hosts, however, were all out in 48.2 overs for a total of 171. After this, the Indian women’s team won the match in 38 overs by scoring 176 for 6 wickets. With this, the visiting team also took a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. India had earlier defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in the T20I series.

Earlier, India bowled out the Sri Lankan women’s team for 171 runs in 48.2 overs due to a brilliant performance by the bowlers led by fast bowler Renuka Singh and spinner Deepti Sharma. Deepti and Renuka took 3 wickets each, while Pooja Vastrakar took 2 and captain Harmanpreet Kaur and veteran spinner Rajeshwari Gaikwad took 1-1 wickets.

For Sri Lanka, Nilakshi de Silva top-scored with 43 while Hasini Perera scored 37 runs. After losing the toss, after receiving the fielding invitation, Renuka showed the way to the pavilion cheaply in the third over to the captain of the opposing team, Chamari Atapattu (2).
