Hello… Welcome to the Weekly Sports Bulletin of News18 Hindi Podcast. Naveen Srivastava is present with the bulletin…. Let’s start on the golden and historic performance of Madhya Pradesh team which became champion for the first time in Ranji Trophy 2021-22. Madhya Pradesh created history and won the trophy for the first time by defeating 41-time champions Mumbai by 6 wickets in the final of Ranji Trophy. On the fifth and final day of the match, Madhya Pradesh got the target of 108 runs to win, which the team achieved in the fifth ball of the 30th over. The heroes of this victory of Madhya Pradesh were Yash Dubey, Shubham Sharma and Rajat Patidar, who played brilliant centuries and gave the team the lead in the first innings.
Twenty-three years ago i.e. in 1998-99, under the captaincy of Chandrakant Pandit, the Madhya Pradesh team reached the final of the Ranji Trophy but was defeated by Karnataka. After trailing by 162 runs in the first innings of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 title match played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, Mumbai had only one option left with the trophy almost slipping from their hands, it was a quick run in the second innings. Trying to get a straight win by making it, but in this effort, Mumbai’s team returned to the pavilion after scoring only 269 runs in its second innings.
In such a situation, Madhya Pradesh team, which is moving towards becoming champion on the basis of first innings lead, got a golden opportunity to win the title by registering a straight victory. Madhya Pradesh got a target of 108 runs in more than 50 overs on the last day of the match to win, which they achieved easily by losing four wickets and adding a golden page to the history of Ranji Trophy. The success of the Madhya Pradesh team led by Aditya Srivastava is being credited to coach Chandrakant Pandit.
Talking with a little detail on the title match of Ranji Trophy 2022, Mumbai scored 374 runs in their first innings after winning the toss and batting first. The Madhya Pradesh team had a great performance during this entire Ranji season. Firstly, in the league matches of Elite Group A, Madhya Pradesh qualified for the playoffs by winning three matches and drawing one match by securing the top position in the group. After this, the team’s brilliant performance in the playoff matches continued unabated and Madhya Pradesh not only won the title by defeating strong Punjab by 10 wickets in the quarter-final match played in Allur and then by 174 runs in the semi-final match to a strong team like Bengal. Instead of making a place for the match, 41-time champion Mumbai won the trophy in the final by beating all four.
Madhya Pradesh team has become Ranji Trophy champion for the first time. Earlier, Holkar team won the title for the first time in 1945-46, while also won the title in 1947-48, 1950-51 and 1952-53. This is the first title in the name of Madhya Pradesh.
For the first time in the 88-year history of the Ranji Trophy, Madhya Pradesh has been congratulated for becoming the Ranji champions. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that, ‘Madhya Pradesh team has done wonders by winning Ranji Trophy for the first time by defeating multiple-time winner Mumbai. We are all giddy, happy and emotional. I extend hearty congratulations and best wishes to the team’s coach Chandrakant Pandit, captain Aditya Srivastava and the entire team. The entire cricket team will be accorded a grand welcome and civil felicitation in the capital Bhopal. There will be a grand welcome to our cricket-valorous Ranbankurs who have created a new history of cricket.
At present, two Indian cricket teams are on separate tours. One team is playing a two-match T20 series in Ireland under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, while the other team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma is busy preparing for the upcoming Test match in England. Injuries to the players of both the teams have increased the difficulties of the team management. While KL Rahul has already been ruled out of the England tour due to injury, captain Rohit Sharma has also been hit by Corona. Now Ruturaj Gaikwad is injured on the tour of Ireland.
The last match of the 2021 five-match Test series between India and England had to be postponed due to Kovid-19. India is leading 2-1 in the series. The last Test match of this series is now to be played from July 1. Doubt remains on whether Rohit Sharma will be available for this match or not. It is believed that if Rohit is unable to play this match, then Jasprit Bumrah will take over the command of the team. KL Rahul is already not part of this match due to injury. If Rohit is also not available, Mayank Agarwal can open the innings with Shubman Gill in his place.
